Former M&S CEO appointed senior director of Vodafone Group board

Former Marks & Spencer CEO Luc Vandevelde has been appointed senior independent director on the Vodafone Group board ahead of the retirement of Sir John Buchanan.

Sir John will retire in his capacity as deputy chairman, senior independent director and member of the audit committee following the company's annual general meeting (AGM) on 24 July. Commenting on his retirement, Vodafone Group chairman Gerard Kleisterlee said: 'Based on his many years of experience and track record of success in financial management in multinational businesses, John has been a great asset to the Vodafone board. The whole board send him our thanks and best wishes.'

Vandevelde will take over following Sir John's departure. Kleisterlee said: 'His experience in the Vodafone board and his deserved reputation as an international businessman of considerable standing make him ideally suited for this role.'
