Mobile retailers ‘face flat years ahead’
Mobile phone retailers will have to battle tightening disposable incomes and consumer sentiment if they are to achieve growth during the next five years, new research has claimed.
A new report by market research firm IBISWorld claims the UK retail market will have declined by an annualised 5.1% in the five years to 2013.
The report said: ‘Retailers have faced a tough trading environment over the past five years. Increasing and intense competition from internal and external players has eroded the market shares held by the industry’s top players.’
The study predicted flat growth for the five years following 2013. It said: ‘Despite stronger consumer demand, revenue growth has been affected by mounting competition between operators, which has led to declines in the average price of phones and falling product margins.’
