Carphone offers Android security after clinching Norton deal

Carphone Warehouse will offer Norton Mobile Security with every Android handset sold as part of a new deal with Symantec.

From 28 May, the software will be offered for £14.99 when purchased with a handset, half its typical selling price. The software's features include remote locate, lock and wipe, as well as a call and text blocker and anti-phishing web protection. According to research by Symantec, mobile vulnerabilities increased by 93% in 2011.

Carphone Warehouse group head of content René Wright said: 'At Carphone Warehouse our responsibility to the customer goes way beyond the devices and services that we offer them in store. Part of our value-add is offering them access to the kind of protection that is essential in the modern landscape of increasing and varied threats.

'In Norton we have a partner that has the same values as ours in terms of exemplary customer service and one that offers protection across the entire ecosystem represented through the product range. We are looking forward to offering further choice and applications to protect and secure our customers with Norton.'

Norton senior director for consumer sales Simon Ellson said: 'Consumers are familiar with protecting their PC or laptop, but with the growing number of phones used to access the internet for online banking and social media, as well as storing personal details and photos, it is imperative that they protect their mobile devices too. Our new partnership with Europe’s largest mobile reseller, Carphone Warehouse, will put industry-leading Norton protection on every new Android handset sold, making it easier than ever to protect the stuff that matters.'
