Nokia will launch a near field communications (NFC) handset called the 6131. The NFC function will allow users to make small payments for things like ticketing, as well as accessing product information.
NFC works in a similar way to keytags used to access entry into buildings, however the exchange of information is more interactive. For example, users will be able to open an audio file or download content from an NFC-enabled poster.
Other features include a 1.3 megapixel camera, an MP3 player, expandable memory, FM radio and Bluetooth.
It will be released during Q1 in selected markets. Estimated price before tax is around £175. A Nokia spokesman said it unknown whether it would reach UK shores.
