The number of published Windows Phones apps has crossed the 100,000 mark, with more than 300 apps being added to its Marketplace on a daily basis.
According to research on the All About Windows Phone blog, it has taken only five months to double its apps from 50,000 to 100,000. While it said 100,145 apps have been published to the Marketplace, only 88,371 are 'live' or available for download.
Windows Phone Marketplace launched 19 months ago. It has reached the 100,000 mark quicker than Android, which hit the milestone after 24 months, but slower than iOS, which reached the same point after 16 months.
According to the research, entertainment is the most popular category, boasting 18,867 apps, followed by tools and productivity (14,591), books and reference (12,816) and games (12,212). The four biggest categories account for 59% of total content.
