Apple has sold 365 million iOS-based devices running its mobile operating system, the manufacturer has claimed.
The company preceded its flurry of announcements at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) last night (11 June) with a set of statistics. Apple senior VP for iOS Scott Forstall said 80% of those 365 million devices are running the latest version of the operating system, iOS 5.
The Apple app store has reached 30 billion downloads, with developers earning $5bn from paid sales and in-app purchases. Apple now boasts more than 650,000 iOS apps, and 225,000 of those are dedicated iPad apps.
Apple's iMessage has passed the 140 million users mark, with one billion messages now sent daily. Forstall also claimed Twitter has reaped the benefits of iOS integration, with 10 billion tweets sent via iOS 5, 47% of which were photos.
He said iOS 5 users are receiving seven billion push notifications per day, and 1.5 trillion push notifications since it first launched the feature.
