Orange is offering customers under 24 an extra 1GB of mobile data plus unlimited calls to Orange or T-Mobile users as part of a new contract and prepay offer.
U24 is targeted at social networkers and students. Prepay customers can get the free calls and 1GB of mobile data if they top up £15 per month. Any Orange customer on a contract of £15 or more will automatically qualify for the extra minutes and data.
Orange has also launched a U24 app for iOS, Android and BlackBerry that highlights contacts in a customer's address book who are also on Orange or T-Mobile.
Orange UK director of propositions Simeon Bird said: 'We’re pleased to be able to reward our younger customers with such a great offer. Whether they’re going away to university, or starting out in a new career, with U24 we’re hoping to make life a little easier, providing them with an extra mobile data allowance and the potential to call and text over 27 million people as often as they like – all for no extra charge.'
Ernest Doku, from price comparison site uSwitch.com, said: 'Expect other providers to quickly follow suit and offer similar packages aimed at a younger audience. Unlike the banks, who can often secure a customer for life by offering incentives such as free overdraft facilities, mobile customers are more familiar with switching every couple of years to get a new handset or better deal. It may take a lot more than Orange is offering to keep them beyond the contract period.'
