Samsung Galaxy S III passes 10 million sales mark

Samsung has broken the 10 million sales mark for its Galaxy S III device, with the company shifting an average of 190,000 handsets per day.

The Korean manufacturer launched the flagship smartphone on 29 May. It has surpassed the record of its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S II, which took around four months to reach the same milestone.

In a press conference in Korea, Shin Jong-kyun, president of Samsung's information technology and mobile communication division, told reporters of the sales record but declined to outline which markets had sold the most handsets.

The Galaxy S III has been seen as the likeliest challenger to the next iteration of the iPhone, which is expected to be released this autumn.
