Hemmerdinger departs Carphone Warehouse

Carphone Warehouse will announce a new retail director within the next week after Anthony Hemmerdinger left after just over a year with the retailer.

A spokeswoman for Carphone Warehouse said Hemmerdinger had received 'an offer he could not refuse' at an external company, which he will take up in the New Year. She refused to comment on which company Hemmerdinger was joining.

Carphone Warehouse UK MD Matt Stringer said: 'Anthony has been a true shopkeeper, integral in leading a very high quality retail function that has achieved unsurpassed levels of customer service and operational control. He has built a cohesive and committed leadership team and enjoyed a high degree of respect and affection from colleagues in stores. His ability to interpret retail needs for support functions positively influenced the planning and delivery of propositions.'

Hemmerdinger joined Carphone Warehouse last summer from Sainsbury's, where he was Zone MD.
