Vodafone launches Huawei Ascend P1

Vodafone has started selling the Huawei Ascend P1 in store, the first device by the Chinese manufacturer to be offered on a pay monthly plan.

The Android Ice Cream Sandwich handset runs on a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display. It also packs an eight-megapixel camera and 1.3 front-facing lens for video calls.

The Ascend P1 is available for free from £26 per month, which offers customers 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data. The most expensive price plan is £57 across 24 months for 3,000 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data.

The operator launched the Huawei G300 on a prepay offer earlier this year. Vodafone senior portfolio manager Jonathan Berrie said: 'Huawei’s developing some really interesting products at the moment, marrying strong specs with affordable prices. Competition is already fierce in the smartphone space and devices like the Ascend P1 stand out because they make it easier for more people to access a richer mobile experience than on, say, a feature phone. We’ve already seen the interest that was generated by the G300 and it’s going to be interesting to see how people respond to the Ascend P1 too.'
