Carphone Warehouse is predicting this autumn will be the 'biggest ever period for smartphones' with thousands of customers expected to trade up to a new device.
The retailer has dubbed the period 'super-upgrade autumn'. Apple's iPhone is widely expected to be announced on 12 September while a new portfolio of Windows Phone 8 handsets will hit the market, including the latest Lumia devices from Nokia.
Graham Stapleton, CCO at Carphone Warehouse [pictured], said: 'This is a very exciting time for the mobile phone industry and looks set to define the smartphone market for years to come. The buzz and anticipation surrounding handset developments at the moment is incredible. We are seeing lots of speculation on possible design, features and operating systems of new devices and huge anticipation amongst our customers.'
Stapleton said it was a boon time to be a smartphone customer, with the widest ever range of devices available across a variety of price points. He claimed there were 'millions' of iPhone 4 customers who were out of contract and waiting for the autumn's newest devices.
He added: 'With several big name launches on the horizon, and the Samsung Galaxy S III still performing extremely well, it’s far from a one horse race.'
