iPhone 5 breaks Phones 4u's pre-order record

Phones 4u has joined Carphone Warehouse in revealing the iPhone 5 has broken its pre-order record.

The retailer said orders for the device, which will go on sale on Friday (21 September), are up 500% on the iPhone 4S and are 71% up on its formerly most pre-ordered device.

Scott Hooton, CCO at Phones 4u, said the retailer was 'staggered' by consumer demand. He said: 'Time and time again phone manufacturers are pulling out all the stops with new device launches, pushing the boundaries of design and technology, increasing speed and improving camera functions, and genuinely delivering what the customer wants.'

Earlier today, Carphone Warehouse said it had taken four times as many pre-orders for the iPhone 5 than any other handset. Apple took two million pre-orders within 24 hours of them going live on Friday, twice as many as for the iPhone 4S.
