The iPhone 5 has lead to more than 50,000 new insurance policy requests in the first three days since the handset went on sale, insurers Lifestyle Policy Group has claimed.
The Group, which is a sister company of Phones 4u, said application surged following the launch of Apple's latest flagship handset a week ago. Sixty percent of the claims are for the 16GB version, which is worth £529.
Andy Morris, business development director at Lifestyle Services Group, said: 'We have experienced a significant uptake in mobile phone insurance policies since the iPhone 5 launched.
'Given the monetary value of the smartphone and also the high dependency people place on these handsets, customers can’t afford to be without their phone and are looking for quick replacements.
'It took less than 24 hours of the iPhone 5 launching for us to receive our first claim - we are seeing more customers recognising the value of this product and the importance of protecting their phone.'
