M-commerce payments platform provider paythru has announced the development of a mobile payment capability for car parking.
paythru will partner parking space management solutions firm Parkeon, with the payment capability being based on Parkeon's new automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) based parking solution, ParkREG.
ParkREG uses ANPR technology to photograph vehicle licence plates as they enter and exit a car park, monitoring their length of stay.
The ticketless system allows visitors to pay either on arrival or departure and ParkREG offers alternative payment options that enable drivers to pay via SMS or online services using paythru’s mobile payment platform.
'From a customer perspective, the benefits are clear,' said Danny Hassett, the UK and Ireland parking director for Parkeon.
'They can pay how they like – whether that is through a parking terminal, online, or via SMS on their mobile. There are no lost tickets, or trips back to the car to display, it is so much more convenient.
'Users don’t have to know in advance how long they will be there, they can just park and go. Drivers are also able to register for ParkREG’s ‘SwishPark’ service, which allows them to use any ‘SwishPark’-enabled car park to be billed at the end of each month – a development designed to increase customer loyalty.
'We came to the decision to implement a new solution largely due to customer demand, but also through partner vision,' said Hassett.
Parkeon claims to have 70,000 parking terminals that are connected and supported by Parkeon Service Centres.
