Apple calls event for 23 October, with iPad Mini expected
Apple is expected to unveil its iPad Mini on 23 October, after announcing a new event for next week.
As is true to form for Apple, invitations for the event, which were sent out today, gave no details of what will be revealed. It only said: 'We've got a little more to show you.' The event will take place in San Jose, California.
The so-called iPad Mini is expected to be a seven-inch tablet and could go on sale for less than $300 (£186). While Apple has largely been responsible for building the tablet category, it has avoided the smaller form factor that Google and Amazon have preferred with their Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire devices respectively. Former Apple CEO Steven Jobs previously said the iPad's 9.7-inch screen was the smallest size required in order to make its software work.
The event will come ahead of Microsoft launching its first range of tablets. The Surface devices will go on sale on 26 October, with UK consumers able to order them online.
