Google cancels Nexus event thanks to Hurricane Sandy

Google has cancelled its Android event today (Monday) thanks to Hurricane Sandy sweeping into New York City.

The cancellation means the digital company has postponed the likely announcement of its new Google Nexus devices. LG was believed to have built the latest Nexus smartphone, with the previous devices being produced by Samsung and HTC. A page showcasing the features of the Nexus 4 went up briefly on Carphone Warehouse's website, although the page has since been taken down. The handset will run Android Jelly Bean on a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor. Google was also expected to reveal a new Nexus tablet, which will be made by Samsung.

The cancellation clears the way for Microsoft, which will finally reveal long awaited details of its new Windows Phone 8 platform later this evening at an event in San Francisco. HTC, Nokia and Samsung are among the manufacturers that have produced devices running the new OS.
