Phones 4u is launching a new £3m television ad campaign, the first time the retailer has launched a Christmas-themed promotion.
The campaign will promote pre-pay handsets and gifts for Christmas and is dubbed ‘Christmas gifts 4u and u and u’, aping its recent ‘upgrades 4u and u and u’ promotion. The first advertisement, which features a voiceover from Inbetweeners star Alex MacQueen, will be broadcast on ITV2 during Take Me Out The Gossip on 3 November.
The retailer is also spending a six-figure sum on a new social media campaign, based around a Facebook competition. It launches in the middle of November and will give consumers the chance to win hundreds of prizes by pulling virtual crackers with their Facebook friends. The competition will also be available as a free app download. Prizes range from smartphones to phone accessories to ringtones.
Caspar Nelson, head of brand communications at Phones 4u, said: 'The new ads build on our hugely successful “upgrades 4u and u and u” campaign. We’ve seen a 50% increase in the number of people registering online for upgrades since the campaign went live and an increase in the volume of new customers shopping with us in-store, so we’re really excited to be getting into the festive spirit by launching our first Christmas-themed TV adverts based on a similar look and feel. The ads are designed to promote our extensive range of mobile phones and gifting propositions as we enter the Christmas period, when we know people are in search of the perfect gifts for their family and friends, which we have at Phones 4u.'
