Skype launches prepaid calling card

Skype has launched a new prepaid calling card, with Asda, Currys, PC World, Sainsbury's and WHSmith stocking the product.

The cards will allow users to pay for premium features such as calling mobiles and landlines worldwide, holding video calls with multiple people and sending text messages. The cards can also be used to pay for different Skype subscription packages, such as its Unlimited World, which costs £9.76 per month.

Skype said the move was a 'significant' new direction in its retail strategy. Enrico Noseda, head of market development for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: 'We see Skype Prepaid Cards as yet another option for users to get more out of the Skype experience, either as a way to add Skype Credit to their account or as a perfect gift for friends and family to allow them to keep in touch more easily. The Skype Credit can be used in whichever way and on whichever device best suits the user, making it as easy as possible to be together whenever we are apart.'
