Mobile retailer Fonehouse has appointed Simon Douglas, former head of Virgin Megastores and Zavvi Entertainment Group, to the newly formed position of CEO.
As part of a restructure, Fonehouse MD Clive Bayley will take on the role of group chairman. Douglas (pictured) will work closely with Bayley on a strategy to drive growth in the business.
Speaking to Mobile, Bayley said: ‘We are strengthening the management team, bringing Simon on board as part of our strategy to double the size of the business over the next 18 months.’
However, Bayley insisted he will not be ‘taking a back seat’ with the appointment of Douglas. He said: ‘I am very excited that Simon is joining Fonehouse and with our combined experiences we will move the business forward....Simon will be tasked with improving the day to day running of the business including integrating our B2B opportunities.
‘I will be moving into the role of group chairman and will work closely with Simon to develop our strategy. I will also be looking for new opportunities that will further strengthen the Fonehouse brand.
Bayley said opportunities with EE, the iPhone 5, B2B and its franchise operations are significant and offer 'a golden opportunity for all involved’.
Douglas' other former posts include operations director at HMV. He also oversaw over 50 Virgin Mobile concessions whilst at Virgin and Zavvi. He said: ‘I am delighted to be joining Fonehouse at such an exciting time. The business has many opportunities and I look forward to working with Clive and the team to realize them.’
