EE has signed a deal to provide all of its customers, including Orange and T-Mobile users, with free Lookout security software on Android handsets.
As part of a wider deal signed by Orange, UK customers will get the software on selected handsets from early next year. The operator said it will protect users from malware, data loss, privacy threats and phone loss or theft. Customers will also be able to use Lookout's Signal Flare feature, that will help them locate their phone even if the battery has died.
As part of the deal, Orange is making an investment in the security company through its Orange & Publicis investment vehicle with Iris Capital. Customers in France, Slovakia and Spain will also benefit from the deal.
Paul-François Fournier, executive VP for Orange Technocentre, said: 'It is critical we help protect our customers, and this partnership with Lookout allows us to provide additional protection for our customers without them having to take any action, or become experts on mobile security. By investing in Lookout we are ensuring that we will continue to help keep our customers safe in the future, and that the Orange & Publicis initiative with Iris Capital is supporting a company that is positioned to become a global leader in the digital economy.'
