Three has signed a deal with Huawei for the Chinese manufacturer to support the management of its core network.
As part of the deal, Huawei will deliver service management and operations for the network, its transport network and information and communications technology (ICT) apps. The ICT management has been subcontracted to TechMahindra. Three originally had a wider-ranging deal in place with Ericsson for it to manage its core network. As part of the changes, 200 Ericsson staff will transfer to Three and a separate contingent of staff will move to Huawei.
Dave Dyson, Three UK CEO, said: 'The decision to select Huawei to manage core network operations follows a rigorous procurement process. We chose the partner that best met our requirements and which matched our long-term vision of how our network should be managed.
'This partnership is just one of a series that sees us enhance the capability of our Ultrafast network. The partnership means the existing team experience will continue to support the management of our core network.'
Victor Zhang, Huawei UK CEO, said: 'Huawei is very pleased to be selected by Three for the operations management of its core network. We already work with Three in six markets internationally and today’s partnership extends that relationship to the UK. The agreement is an important step in building a world-class managed services capability. Huawei has been in the UK for eleven years and by focusing on the needs of our customers, we continue to develop and grow our business.'
