Samsung Galaxy S series passes 100 million shipments mark

Samsung's Galaxy S series of smartphones has passed the 100 million shipments mark, the manufacturer has revealed.

The Galaxy S III, which was released in May 2012, sold 20 million units within its first 100 days of sale and has now passed 40 million sales. This has been matched by the Galaxy S II, which was launched in April 2011. It sold 10 million units in five months and has shipped around 40 million devices in total. The first device in the portfolio, the Samsung Galaxy S, was launched in June 2010 and has sold 24 million devices since then, with 10 million coming in its first seven months since launch.

The Galaxy series has led Samsung to become the world's biggest phone manufacturer. It has predicted it will post a record fourth quarter profit of 8.8 trillion Korean Won (£5.16bn), when it reveals its results later this month.
