Apple fails to win further damages from Samsung in US case

Apple has failed in its attempt to get the $1.05bn in damages that Samsung has been ordered to pay it increased.

In the latest development in the long-running US court case over patents, US district judge Lucy Koh ruled Samsung's infringement was not wilful. The ruling also included denying both companies' attempts to have a new trial and also leaving August's judgement that Samsung infringed six mobile-device patents.

According to a report in Bloomberg, Judge Koh rejected Apple's argument that how its tablet devices look and feel should be protectable. She also rjected an attempt to overrule the jury finding Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 did not copy the design of the iPad.

Both companies declined to comment on the ruling.
