Nokia 'will wait' on announcing new tablet
Nokia is unlikely to reveal a tablet at next week's Mobile World Congress, choosing instead to concentrate on its smartphone portfolio.
A tablet has long been seen as the key missing piece in Nokia's portfolio of products since it moved to the Windows Phone platform two years ago. Earlier this month, CEO Stephen Elop said a tablet was something 'we are clearly looking at very closely', raising speculation it would reveal a device at the Barcelona trade fair.
However, in a briefing note, analysts Strategy Analytics said this is unlikely to take place after it carried out 'extensive' channel checks. Analyst Neil Mawston said: 'We believe Nokia's strategy will be "smartphones first" for MWC this year. And rightly so. Nokia will want to expand its Lumia smartphone range and solidify its growing leadership of the global WP8 market.'
