Mastercard launches new mobile payments service
Mastercard has launched a new digital payments service for mobiles.
MasterPass will launch later this year and allow consumers to click, tap and touch to make payments using their handsets. It will support NFC-enabled phones, QR codes, tags and mobile checkouts in store, and also provide a means to buy online without having to enter card details. Mastercard will also offer the service to financial institutions for them to offer their own wallets.
Ed McLaughlin, chief emerging payments officer, MasterCard, said: 'Every device is becoming a shopping device. MasterPass brings together all of the ways we pay for things, from traditional plastic cards to digital wallets, and gives consumers the ability to make a payment from wherever they are and with one simple experience.'
