Samsung's Galaxy S 4 will be available for free on plans from £35 per month as Phones 4u lines up £100 of Google Play vouchers and potential free gifts.
Operators and retailers followed Carphone Warehouse in outlining their pricing plans this morning (28 March). Three is offering the device at the lowest cost, for free at £35 per month on its Ultimate Internet 500 plan. For £37, it can be bought for free as part of Its The One Plan. Marketing director Tom Malleschitz said: 'We have every confidence that customers will be able to enjoy great speeds and get the ultimate mobile internet experience without a hefty price tag on our new Ultrafast award-winning network with this phone.'
Each of EE's price plans require an upfront payment, ranging from £19.99, for its £76 per month tariff, to £269.99, for its £31 per month plan. It will be promoting a launch offer of £41 per month, for 1GB of data, unlimited calls and unlimited texts. All customers who pre-order the device will get a Samsung accessory pack worth £54.99, including cover, 16GB memory card and an in-car charger. Paul Jevons, director of products and devices at EE, said: 'The Galaxy S4 is an innovative and feature rich handset, but most importantly, it is a device built with 4G in mind. 4G helps to enhance the Galaxy S4’s unique features, ensuring it offers customers an incredible combination of speed and design that will only enhance everyday life on the move.'
As well as the Google Play vouchers, Phones 4u will offer give away a free Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Camera every day before it goes on sale on 26 April. Consumers who sign up to a contract of more than £46 per month will get £100 of vouchers, £41 per month will get £50 and £36 per month will get £25. The device is available for free on contracts from £41 per month. Scott Hooton, chief commercial officer at Phones 4u, said: 'We’re expecting the pre-orders for Samsung’s latest device to smash through the Samsung Galaxy SIII’s record as the most pre-ordered smartphone of all time at Phones 4u.'
Vodafone is looking to a trade-in offer to drive sales. If a customer swaps any working touchscreen handset, they will get £5 off their line rental, meaning the device will be free from £37 per month, with unlimited calls, texts and 2GB of data.
