Huawei launches Ascend Y300 smartphone at Carphone Warehouse

Huawei is to launch its Ascend Y300 smartphone with Carphone Warehouse this week. The device is the first Huawei-branded smartphone to go on sale with Carphone Warehouse.

The Ascend Y300 will be available in black from £59.95 on prepay and from £7.50 per month on contract.

Rhys Saunders, UK sales director at Huawei Device, said: ‘The partnership with Carphone will help cement Huawei’s products and brand firmly in the British consciousness in the coming months.

'In the entry-level, the Ascend Y300 does not scrimp on anything. It combines hardware and features to deliver a compelling smartphone experience to a part of the market that has been under-served in the UK.’

Carl Cowling, group commercial director at The Carphone Warehouse, said: ‘We're proud to bring Huawei phones into our range and see this partnership as a demonstration of our commitment to offering shoppers the best possible choice of devices and mobile deals.

‘Such a high profile manufacturer coming into the UK market signals the start of a particularly interesting time for the mobile industry and will provide a boost to product innovation and competition.

‘High quality, affordable smartphones represent the fastest growing area of the mobile market today and offer an exciting opportunity that many of the key players are vying for a piece of. The Huawei Ascend Y300 offers the best of both worlds – it's a powerful smartphone at an accessible price tag – and we're sure that it will be very popular with our customers.’

The Ascend Y300, which runs on Android 4.1 Jellybean, sits at the top-end of Huawei’s Y-series range of smartphones. It is targeted at the youth market, as well as first and second-time smartphone users. It sports a 1GHz dual-core processor and comes with a 4-inch screen and a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, flash, panorama function and video record at 30 frames per second. It also gives power efficiencies of around 30% on a 1730mAh battery.
