Samsung has announced the launch of its Galaxy S4 Zoom, a hybrid camera/smartphone device that will hit the UK this summer.
The handset has a full zooming camera lens on the back of the device, with a 10x optical zoom, 16MP CMOS sensor and Xenon Flash. It has an optical zoom stabiliser, which keeps the lens still when a user is moving. A Photo Suggest function connects consumers to libraries of images taken by other photographers. The handset has weaker specs than the Galaxy S4, with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 4.3 inch screen. However, it shares many of the features of the Samsung flagship such as Story Album, which allows users to arrange videos and images into one timeline to share with friends. It also runs Android Jelly Bean.
Simon Stanford, vice-president of IT and mobile division at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, said: 'Combining our industry leading expertise in digital imaging and smartphones, the Galaxy S4 Zoom is a converged device that delivers on all fronts and is a product we are excited to be bringing to the market.'
Confirming it will stock the device, Scott Hooton, chief commercial officer at Phones 4u, said: 'We are extremely pleased to confirm that we will be stocking the cutting edge 4G camera phone, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom. The latest addition to the Samsung range will be welcomed by those who like to use their smartphones for taking pictures on the go, with its outstanding sensory camera features, including an incredible picture quality for optimum viewing pleasure.'
