John Doughty has moved to Brightstar where he will take up the role of head of distribution in Europe.
Doughty’s departure from Micro-P, where he was head of business development of its accessories division, was announced in May this year. At the time it was widely rumoured he was heading for Brightstar.
Doughty’s appointment is part of US distribution giant Brightstar Corporation’s plans to expand into Europe. Sources said Brightstar Corp is understood to be in negotiations with Doughty Hanson to buy distributor 20:20 Mobile, which will form the basis of Brightstar’s European operations.
Brightstar sold its share in Brightstar Europe, a joint venture with Tech Data Corp last year. Since then it has been pursuing its goal of setting up a wholly owned European operation.
Doughty is a mobile industry veteran. He joined the Cauldwell Group in 2003 as an associate director and left in 2005 to take up the role of sales director at Tech Data UK. In 2007 he joined Brightstar as commercial director, leaving one year later to become commercial director at Avenir. In 2009 he joined Micro-P as general manager of its mobile division becoming head of business development at its accessories division in 2012.
