MusicQubed snares former Vodafone CTO as chairman
Former Vodafone chief technology officer Chris Burke has been hired as the chairman of the company behind O2's music service, O2 Tracks.
Chris Burke joined MusicQubed today (4 July) and has spent more than 30 years working in the telecoms industry, most recently as managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at BlackBerry. MusicQubed's platform has been used by O2 to power its mobile music service, which allows consumers to listen to the Official UK Top 40 on the move. More than 50 million songs have been played on the service since it launched in February.
Burke will be responsible for driving the company's strategy and targeting international markets. He said: 'I am excited to be part of such an innovative company, particularly following the successful O2 Tracks deployment and engagements with other tier one operators internationally.'
Chris Gorman, CEO of MusicQubed, said: 'We have a number of hugely exciting international projects in the pipeline and are extremely pleased to have Chris Burke join MusicQubed. His in-depth knowledge of mobile and range of global contacts will prove invaluable in accelerating our growth internationally. We see it as a testament to our company’s success that Chris has chosen to join our team.'
