A1 Comms is continuing its drive into the online mobile market with the launch of its latest mobile phone website.
The newly launched Phones.co.uk is the online retailer’s fourth website, joining Buymobilephones.net, Mobileshop.com and Affordablemobiles.co.uk. Steve Rhodes (pictured), A1 Comms digital director, who oversaw the creation and launch of the platform, said Phones.co.uk would be a more content driven site than its other three sites.
He said: ‘We have constructed the site to provide a lot more editorial around the products, with lots of reviews and news generated content. We also want to have far more content from the customer, with customer reviews of products which we know other customers really appreciate.’He added: ‘It is a great way to get customer feedback too and gives consumers in depth information rather than a list of specs.’
Rhodes, former head of Three UK’s and Three Australia’s online businesses, joined A1 Comms in February this year with a brief to grow the digital business. He hinted more mobile phone websites could be in the pipeline. He said: ‘Having a number of sites allows us to talk to different customer types and allows us to offer a different range and experience within each site and we are by no means at the end of that journey.’
He said the digital team was at the size where it was cost effective to take on new projects. He said: ‘We have around 20 staff in the digital division. The great thing about our existing infrastructure is that when we add a new site it does not create a drain on the team because of the economies of scale involved. They all run from one connection engine, so it is a really efficient operation.’
