Samsung readies smartwatch and Galaxy Note 3 for IFA
Samsung has confirmed it will launch its first smartwatch and the Galaxy Note 3 at the IFA consumer fair next month.
The ‘Galaxy Gear’ is thought to be a link to a user’s smartphone, with texts and emails going straight through to the watch-like device. The Gear is likely to have an AMOLED touch screen interface and is even rumoured to have the capabilities to make voice calls without a traditional handset. In an interview with The Korea Times, Samsung’s executive vice president of mobile Lee Young-hee revealed everything would be announced on the 4 September in the German capital and hinted a range of wearable smart devices were on the way.
Lee said: ‘The Gear won’t have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry. We have intellectual properties for patents related to the next wearable devices. Those are concepts for future products.’
Lee revealed the manufacturer’s new tablet, the Galaxy Note 3, would also be unveiled at the IFA Consumer Electronics Fair two days later. When asked about a possible takeover of the ailing Blackberry, Lee added that Samsung was ‘not considering the opportunity’.
