Samsung has announced its new watch-like Galaxy Gear will be available in the UK from late September.
The Korean manufacturer revealed the wearable device along with The Galaxy Note 3 at IFA 2013 in Berlin. The Galaxy Gear was described as the ‘perfect companion device’, and keeps users in touch with incoming calls, texts and emails from connected Galaxy handsets. The Gear incorporates a 1.9MP camera and a built-in speaker, allowing users to make or receive hands-free voice calls. A useful ‘Fine my device’ feature helps find connected devices if they’ve been misplaced by making them light-up, beep or vibrate.
JK Shin, Samsung’s CEO and president of IT & mobile division, said: ‘Samsung’s ongoing smart device innovation leadership reflects our commitment to listen to our consumers who want their daily lives to be easier and more enjoyable. Samsung Galaxy Gear benefits consumers by integrating smart device technology even deeper into their everyday lives, and bridges the gap between the mobile device and fashion worlds to create truly wearable technology. Samsung Galaxy Gear frees users from the need to constantly check their smart devices while maintaining connections. It provides what we call ‘smart freedom’ by allowing users to choose how, why, when and where they are connected.’
The new Galaxy Note 3 will also be available on the UK market from September. The 4G ready device has a HD Super AMOLED 5.7 inch display. It’s available with either 16GB or 32GB internal storage and has a 13MP camera. Features include a new S Pen to facilitate easy note taking and Multi Window, which allows users to switch applications without opening or closing windows.
Shin added: ‘We introduced the original Galaxy Note in 2011 and launched a whole new smart device category. The undeniable success of the Galaxy Note strengthened our conviction that consumers want higher quality features for smart devices and they want those new features to make their lives better. Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is a powerful, original approach that enables users to tell the stories of their lives through dynamic and seamless expressions of their passions across work, play and life experiences. With a simple click of the S Pen button, users can unlock opportunities for self-expression, features that transform everyday activities into extraordinary events and access to new experiences delivered to them on Note 3’s larger screen.’
