Vodafone has raised its 4G game this week offering 4GB of extra data at no extra cost to existing and new 4G customers and adding another five towns to its 4G roll out.
New 4G customers who sign up before the end of October will receive 4GB of extra date per month at no extra cost. Existing customers who took the proposition from its August 12 launch will also be eligible for this data bonus.
The operator also announced Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Nottingham and Sheffield will be switched on to Vodafone's ultrafast network on 28 September after the original launch in London last month.
The network plans 98% 4G indoor coverage in the UK by 2015 with Bradford, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle next on the agenda. Customers on selected tariffs are still eligible for three months unlimited data and inclusive Sky Sports and Spotify packages.
Mark Howe, head of post pay consumer at Vodafone UK, said: ‘With our Vodafone Red 4G-ready plans 4G finally has a purpose and now with the ‘4GBonus’ Vodafone ultrafast 4G is even more compelling. There are a number of hotly anticipated new devices coming out in the Autumn and with the ‘4GBonus’ there are even more reasons for customers to choose Ultrafast 4G from Vodafone.’
Telecoms expert at uSwitch, Ernest Doku, added: ‘Vodafone’s data boost could really be the shift needed to kick the UK 4G market into high gear. While prices haven’t been driven down by added competition, we have seen providers jostle for position by offering perks, as well as become more generous with their mobile data allowances.
‘While EE is all but certain to win in a race of superfast speeds at the moment, a wealth of data – as well as mobile access to Sky Sports or Spotify – at a similar price certainly makes Vodafone a compelling option.’
