HTC boss to 'focus on innovation' as struggles continue
HTC CEO Peter Chou has stepped back from some of his operational duties, as the Taiwanese smartphone maker struggles to turn its business around.
According to the Financial Times, Chou is to focus on 'innovation' and products, with chairwoman and co-founder Cher Wang taking a bigger day to day role and will assume responsibilities for sales, marketing and supplier relationships. HTC posted its first ever quarterly loss this month and has seen an exodus of senior staff. Last week, Mobile reported further departures in its marketing team.
Chou told the Financial Times: 'I took on too many things. I need to be more focused on innovation and [the] product portfolio.'
Last week, HTC announced it was moving into the larger sized phablet category with the HTC One Max. The manufacturer has reportedly been snapped up to build the first smartphone for retail giant Amazon.
