Samsung widens Galaxy Gear connectivity

Samsung is making a case for its new Galaxy Gear smartwatch by extending its compatibility to a range of other Galaxy devices.

The wearable device was launched last month with the capability to pair up with the Korean manufacturer’s new Galaxy Note 3. The Gear will now be able to link up with the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy Note 2 if customers download Android's Jelly Bean update. From the end of October, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, S4 Active, Mega 5.8, Mega 6.3, and Galaxy S4 Zoom will also become compatible through a different software update, although this may vary depending on location of the user and their network operator.

CEO and president of Samsung’s IT and mobile division, JK Shin, said: ‘Extending the Galaxy Gear compatibility to more Galaxy devices reflects our deep commitment to continuing to deliver our consumers enriched mobile experiences. Through a significant effort to enhance and enrich Samsung Galaxy experience, Samsung continues to empower our users to have smart freedom in their mobile lives with Galaxy Gear.’
