O2 brings carrier billing to Windows Phone

O2 customers will be able to charge purchases from the Windows Phone store to their mobile bill, after the operator extended its 'Charge to Mobile' service to the Microsoft operating system.

Parent Telefónica has already trialled the scheme in Spain and Germany and the extension has been automatically extended to all O2 consumer customers. According to figures from O2, the move is better for developers as they receive three times more cash per user in markets where carrier billing is offered.

David Plumb, UK director for Telefónica Digital, said: 'Charge to Mobile supports our digital strategy and we’re delighted to add Microsoft to our growing portfolio of technology companies who offer it. The service allows us to put digital at the heart of the customer experience, offering them a fast, easy and safe alternative to credit or debit cards.'
