Blackberry appoints new UK MD

BlackBerry has appointed Alexandra Zagury as its new managing director for the UK and Ireland.

She was most recently vice-president and managing director for the manufacturer in South Africa, Southern Africa and Turkey. She will be responsible for leading the manufacturer's business strategy in the UK and trying to turn around the business's fortunes, after the launch of the new BB10 devices did not perform to expectations. She replaces Rob Orr, who joined earlier this year to join Samsung.

Zagury said: 'The UK and Ireland combined is one of BlackBerry’s most successful and strategically important markets. My number one priority is to continue to serve all of our customers and focus on driving the ongoing adoption of the BlackBerry 10 platform, BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 and the BBM mobile social network.'

Zagury joined Blackberry in 2008, when she was in charge of regional strategic planning and business operations for Europe, Middle East and Africa. She formerly worked for Yahoo! Europe.
