BlackBerry changes gear with pricey Porsche handset

BlackBerry has teamed up with luxury car designer Porsche to reveal the new P'9882 smartphone.

The device will be available from 21 November after an exclusive retail launch in Harrods, with a recommended retail price £1,450. Carphone Warehouse will continue its relationship with the struggling manufacturer by stocking it in its stores as well as its Selfridges concession. The handset will be unveiled alongside a second Crocodile model, featuring crocodile leather, of which only 500 will be made available.

The P'9982 will have the Porsche look and feel, being 'exquisitely fashioned from high-quality material' such as stainless steel, satin and Italian leather. The device will run BlackBerry 10.2, and will have apps like Priority Hub, BBM Video with Screen Share, camera time shift mode and BlackBerry Story Maker.

Senior vice president of design at BlackBerry Alistair Hamilton said: ‘The new all-touch P’9982 smartphone combines a unique design from an iconic brand with the power of BlackBerry 10. Every aspect of this smartphone has been purposely designed and built for a powerful premium experience.’
