Huawei teams up with La Liga in sponsorship deal
Huawei has signed a deal with the Spanish La Liga as it continues to use football as a means to boost its brand.
The move sees the Chinese manufacturer become the Liga De Fútbol Profesional's (LFP) global technology partner. Huawei smartphones in Spain will come with a pre-installed app with news and information from the league which boasts stars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Huawei said the deal is the latest to forge relationships with some of 'the world's top football teams' like Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Wellington Phoenix of New Zealand.
As part of the deal Huawei has secured access to the Liga's trademark, logo, mascot, group player images and 'other exclusive assets'. The smartphone maker will also open football summer camps for 'fans to experience Spanish football culture'. The strategy mirrors that of HTC who secured the sponsorship of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, while smartphone rivals Samsung sponsors Premier League team Chelsea.
Huawei consumer business groups executive vice president Jeff Liu said: ‘Huawei’s LFP sponsorship demonstrates our ‘Make it Possible’ message, which is our promise to help people achieve their dreams by bringing quality products within reach. Cooperation brings together two top brands in their field, creating win-win opportunities for both.’
