Nokia admits N95 shortage
Distributors are already concerned that interest in the Nokia N95 is so strong that they will be unable to keep up with demand.
Unique, Fone Logistics and 20:20 are all expecting their allocations of the device to arrive later this week. Fone Logistics has a massive 5000 units on order, while Unique and 20:20 are understood to be expecting around 1000 units each.
'Demand for the handset is already outweighing supply,' one distribution source told Mobile. Another was worried that they would not receive the number they had so far requested. 'What we order and what we get are often two different things,' he said.
All three distributors have said that their initial allocations will be going straight into the channel, many to fulfil back orders. Dealers across the country have told Mobile that they already have lists of eager customers awaiting the device. 'I'm expecting five in from 20:20 this week and all of them will be going straight to waiting customers,' said one London dealer.
A Nokia spokesman said: 'We are aware that demand is high and we're doing everything we can to ensure our production ramp is as fast as possible. Initially there is going to be a shortage as with any popular product. We've tried to do our best to make the UK market in particular gets a good supply.'
The N95 is expected to be in stores nationwide from 1 April.
