Half of new contracts sold at Phones 4u are 4G deals, with the retailer reporting strong sales among younger consumers.
Speaking ahead of the crucial last few weeks of Christmas trading, Tom Shorten, the high street retailer's strategy and customer director, said the seasonal peak shopping period has started early this year. He described wearable tech, such as the Samsung Galaxy Gear and Sony SmartWatch, as a 'truly significant consumer trend' and said demand for such devices should extend into the New Year.
Shorten said since the retailer began selling Vodafone 4G contracts in addition to EE 4G deals, it has seen a surge in next generation postpay demand. He said: 'We’re seeing huge interest in 4G handsets and contracts and through our consultative sales process, which includes live in-store demonstrations of the capabilities of 4G, our customers are really starting to appreciate the benefits of 4G. As such, 4G currently makes up 54% of all our contract sales at Phones 4u. We’re finding that 4G strongly appeals to our specific customer demographic, with the average 4G customer being 5 years younger than the average 3G customer.'
Shorten added: 'Our combined offering – including the latest 4G handsets along with our gifting bundles – is really driving sales this Christmas. So much so, we reached our highest ever market share in contract last week.'
