Roberson to join Vodafone as indirect channel chief

Former HTC UK chief Phil Roberson is joining Vodafone as head of indirect channel sales.

Roberson, who quit HTC in March this year to take a sabbatical, will join the operator in January.

The move is part of a management restructuring at Vodafone which also sees Martin Jones, head of channel management, leave Vodafone in March to 'explore an exciting business opportunity,' according to the operator. Vodafone is currently seeking a new head of channel management.

Vodafone said Roberson's appointment is part of a strategy to intensify its focus on both its indirect and direct channel.

Roberson is a highly respected mobile industry veteran who will bring a wealth of experience to Vodafone. Roberson began his telecoms career at Orange from 1998 joining as a commercial manager in its retail operation. In 2003 he joined T-Mobile as senior commercial manager becoming head of terminals and operations in 2008.Following the creation of EE Roberson was made head of EE’s device marketing team.

Roberson is one of a number of executives that have exited HTC this year. News of his appointment closely follows that of Jon French’s recent appointment as international sales director at Beats by Dr Dre. French held the role of HTC’s VP of Middle East and Africa operations from May 2012. His previous post was head of HTC’s sales operations in the UK and Ireland.
