Orange demonstrates a wind turbine charger
Orange will demonstrate a wind-powered mobile phone charger next week, as part of its sponsorship of the Glastonbury festival.
The operator commissioned the prototype, which weighs just 150g and can be mounted on a tent.
The unit is designed to generate and store power during the day to allow charging in the evening.
Orange worked with the University of Texas to develop a charger that would take advantage of the English climate ‘to ensure a constant energy source.’
But don’t expect to see them in the shops yet, as the research is still in its infancy and the turbines are expected to be developed further before a commercial launch.
