MWC 2014: Huawei wearable TalkBand to be on European market in Q2

Huawei has unveiled its new suite of products to celebrate MWC including its first wearable proposition.

The Chinese manufacturer kicked off the industry's most important event by revealing its Ascend G6 and Ascend G6 4G smartphones. The 4G incarnation of the device will become available from April 2014, while the original version will be on the market in Q1 2014. The device boasts a 1.2 GHz processor and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Also incorporated is a 4.5-inch qHD display, while the Ascend G6 4G will also be enabled for NFC sharing and payments. The 4G version will be available in black, white and champagne gold, while the 3G handset comes in black, white, pink, gold and blue.

Huawei CEO Richard Yu said: ‘Huawei Ascend G6 4G is a stylish, colourful, and lightning fast smartphone designed to break down barriers. With its handy 4G LTE connectivity, easy-to-use interface and dynamic cameras offering a multitude of photographic opportunities, Huawei is delivering on our promise to 'Make it Possible' for more people around the world.’

Additionally, the smartphone maker revealed two new models to its MediaPad range, the 7-inch 4G-ready X1, and the ‘8-inch powerhouse’ M1 device.

The X1 is powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor and the Jelly Bean version of Android. It will be available from March in China, Russia, Western Europe, the Middle East, Japan and Latin America.

The M1 will hit the shelves during Q1 in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, China, Japan, Asia Pacific, Australia and Latin America. The MediaPad has Huawei SWS technology, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and inbuilt Wi-Fi routers with 2.4/5G dual mode Wi-Fi support.

The wearable TalkBand B1 will be available in China from March and Japan, the Middle East, Russia and Western Europe from Q2. The device features wireless calling via a Bluetooth 4.1 earpiece. It has a flexible OLED display and supports Android 2.3 and iOS 5.0+.

Yu added: ‘We're excited to unveil our new 4G LTE-enabled MediaPads which, together with Huawei TalkBand B1, deliver the essential pillars of happiness – health, connection to family, contact with friends and access to work - without boundaries.

‘Huawei's culture of innovation places us in prime position to develop devices that bring people the benefits and joy of technology through 4G LTE connectivity.’

A Carphone Warehouse spokesperson said: 'The Huawei Ascend P6 launched last year was a huge success and really proved that Huawei are a force to be reckoned with. At Carphone Warehouse, we know that many consumers want to be able to get their hands on the latest technology without a hefty price tag. Over the past 12 months we’ve noticed an almost democratisation of the smartphone market, as more and more mid-tier smartphones, like the new Huawei G6 and their new wearable device, are introduced to the market. It’s a positive move for the industry and ultimately gives consumers more scope to compare handsets on the market and ensure they get a deal that’s the right fit for their needs.'
