Carphone/Dixons merger decision pushed back until May

Carphone Warehouse’s potential billion pound merger with Dixons will be decided in May after the Takeover Panel granted an extension over the announcement.

The deadline was originally expected to be 5pm today (24 March), but according to reports 19 May will be the new date discussions will have to conclude over a possible £4bn deal.

In early February Mobile revealed that the two firms were in high level discussions. On 24 February it was announced that Carphone Warehouse and Dixons were in ‘preliminary discussions regarding a possible merger’.

A statement made by the electronics companies said: ‘Since the announcement of February 24 was made when discussions were at a very preliminary stage, both parties have agreed that they require more time to evaluate a potential merger of the two businesses.’
