Tesco will release own-brand smartphone and new tablet
Tesco will ramp up its mobile operations this year by launching its own-brand smartphone.
In an interview with the BBC, chief executive Philip Clarke revealed that the Android-operated device will be high-end, but competitive on price. The handset is expected to be launched later this year and will come with pre-installed Tesco apps.
Additionally, the supermarket giant will bring the follow-up to its successful Hudl tablet (pictured) to the market in September. The Hudl 2’s aggressively-priced predecessor sold half a million units after its release last year.
There are no details on price and spec of the two devices as yet, although Mobile understands that the new incarnation will not veer much from the original blueprint.
