Sony cancels UK launch of Xperia T2 Ultra

Mobile phone manufacturer Sony has cancelled the launch of its Xperia T2 Ultra Android handset in the UK.

Several retailers had already started taking pre-orders for the handset, following the manufacturer’s decision to introduce the device to the UK market.

British-based retailers such as Clove are now cancelling customer pre-orders for the new smartphone. Clove had previously listed a SIM-free version of the handset on its website with a price tag of £285.

The retailer stated that ‘the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra will not be coming to the UK & is no longer available for sale’ on the pre-order page.

The product has now been removed from a number of mobile retailers’ UK websites.

No reason was given by Sony for the cancellation of the UK launch. At the time of writing, a spokesperson for Sony said it would update Mobile on the situation.

It is predicted that Sony will concentrate on the high-end smartphone market in the UK while leaving the mid-range product to emerging markets as it had originally intended.
