Former HTC executive director Jon French has joined Microsoft Mobile Devices to head up its Middle East region, Mobile has learnt.
The move sees French quit his role as international sales director at music streaming and hi tech headphone company Beats by Dr Dre to return to his roots. The VP’s ?rst role in the mobile industry was with Nokia in the late1990s in its sales division.
French, whose formal title is ME VP at Microsoft Mobile Devices, joins the company as it continues its integration, following the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft earlier this year. He is tasked with driving sales of Microsoft’s flagship Nokia Lumia devices in the Middle East region.
French will remain in Dubai, where he has been based since March 2011, when he took the role of HTC’s VP of sales and operations EMEA. In 2012 he was promoted to HTC VP MEA and in November last year joined Beats by Dr Dre on a consultancy basis. The music streaming company recently announced a $3bn deal, which will see Apple purchase the company as part of its drive to diversify into services.
Before moving to Dubai French was executive director of HTC UK and Ireland, working closely with HTC UK founder Florian Seche, who is also currently employed by Nokia as its European sales director.
