Three to launch app to make calls over wi-fi
Mobile network operator Three has announced it will launch an app to allow customers to make calls and send text messages over a wi-fi connection. The Three inTouch app will be available from early August.
Three inTouch will be available for free to its contract, SIM and Pay As You Go customers. Using the new app, the network operator’s customers will be able to use their monthly allowance or prepaid credit for any minutes or texts used. The service, which Three said is “seamless”, will use the customers’ Three phone number.
The communications company said the new technology would “particularly improve the experience” in places where there is typically no mobile signal. It will also allow customers to make calls in buildings where they cannot access a mobile network.
A spokesperson for Three told Mobile: 'We want to give our customers the best mobile experience at all times. We’ve therefore launched Three inTouch to allow customers to make calls and send texts in areas where there’s typically no mobile signal.'
Three's competitor EE announced on Friday it will launch a similar service in the autumn.
